ISM 2026 to Open a New Chapter in Microbiota Medicine Under the Presidency of Alain Stintzi

Professor Stintzi, Professor at the University of Ottawa and Director of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is internationally recognized for his work on microbial adaptation, host–pathogen interactions, and gut microbiota dynamics. His appointment reflects ISM’s ambition to strengthen the scientific direction of the society and accelerate the transition of microbiota research from mechanisms to medicine.

Under his scientific leadership, ISM 2026 will focus on a clear strategic objective: bringing together leading researchers, clinicians, innovators, journal editors, and industry stakeholders to build a stronger international platform for microbiota science.

ISM 2026 Agenda

The 2026 program will explore key questions shaping the future of the field, including host–microbiota interactions, microbial metabolites, microbiome-based diagnostics, precision nutrition, microbiota-driven prevention, and translational strategies for chronic diseases and healthy aging. At a time when microbiota research is moving from correlation to causality and from discovery to implementation, ISM aims to position Targeting Microbiota as a high-level meeting where fundamental science, clinical translation, and industrial innovation meet. The Málaga edition will also serve as a strategic platform to define the next phase of ISM activities, with a strong emphasis on scientific excellence, international visibility, and the development of microbiota-based strategies for the medicine of tomorrow.

ISM also wishes Prof. Alain Stintzi great success in this new role and looks forward to building, under his presidency, a stronger and more visible international microbiota community.
